Wedding photography from Longfurlong Barn

Long Furlong Barn is one of those venues that just works. Tucked away in the South Downs near Worthing, it’s got everything I look for as a wedding photographer – a well-run team, beautiful light, and enough space for couples to really enjoy the day without feeling like they’re on a tight schedule. If you’re after a barn venue that feels stylish but still relaxed, this place ticks the boxes.

The Layout That Makes the Day Flow

From a photography point of view, Long Furlong Barn is smartly designed. The Cartshed – where most ceremonies take place – has big windows, soft wooden tones and those string lights that give it atmosphere without being over the top. For outdoor ceremonies, the oak-beamed Furlong View is set perfectly against open countryside – great for wide shots and natural light portraits.

The Granary, where the reception usually happens, is easy to shoot in thanks to the high ceilings and clean layout. No strange shadows, no low beams in your way – just open space and room for people to be themselves.

Why This Venue Works for Candid Photography

I work in a documentary style, so I’m always watching for those unplanned moments – nervous laughter before the ceremony, a proud glance from a parent, someone tearing up during the speeches. At Long Furlong Barn, the space allows that to happen naturally. You don’t feel boxed in or overly styled. It’s authentic, and that comes across in the images.

Tips If You’re Getting Married Here

  • Golden Hour is Your Friend: The surrounding fields and hills catch the light beautifully in the evening. It’s worth sneaking off for ten minutes after dinner for a few portraits. No stiff posing – just a quiet moment together before the evening kicks off.
  • Use the Courtyard: The Mediterranean-style courtyard is ideal for relaxed mingling, drinks, and casual shots of guests. It breaks the day up nicely and helps avoid a lull between ceremony and food.
  • Rain Plan? Covered. The Cartshed is bright and warm year-round, so even if the weather turns, your ceremony still looks great on camera.

A Sussex Venue That Suits My Style
Over the years, I’ve photographed at all sorts of Sussex venues – from Pangdean Barn to Wadhurst Castle – but Long Furlong Barn has a particular charm. It doesn’t try too hard. It lets you have your day your way. My role is to quietly capture that without forcing the moments. And when a venue supports that, the results speak for themselves.

Final Thoughts
If you’re planning a Sussex wedding at Long Furlong Barn and want a photographer who blends in quietly, spots the little moments, and doesn’t make a fuss. Then please do tell me your plans.
