Sussex Wedding Photography Blog

I photograph weddings across Sussex – from barn celebrations in Chichester to the coast near Eastbourne. If you're planning a relaxed day at venues like Long Furlong Barn, Wadhurst Castle or Grittenham Barn, you'll find a few favourites below.

My 3 Favourite Wedding Photos (And Why They Matter to Me)

People often ask if I have a favourite wedding photo. Truth is, I’ve got hundreds I love — but a few really stick with me. Not because they’re technically perfect, but because they capture something real, unfiltered, and unforgettable.
Here are three of my all-time favourites — and why I love them.

3.Page Boy, Front and Centre

Weddings give you all sorts of moments — some emotional, some beautiful… and some that just make you laugh. This one was taken during the ceremony. The bride’s nephew, standing proudly next to the bridesmaids, decided it was the perfect time to have a good dig. No shame. Full commitment.

It’s one of my favourite images because it’s exactly what I love about photographing kids at weddings — they don’t care that you’re there with a camera. They just do their thing. Completely unfiltered.

The bride told me afterwards: “That’s just so him — we absolutely love it.”
And that’s what it’s about — honest moments that mean something later, even if they weren’t part of the plan.

First Dance at Wiston House

It was the couple’s first dance at Wiston House in Sussex. I’d already got the close-up moments I needed on the dance floor — the smiles, the spins, the way they looked at each other. But I wanted to create something more: a moment frozen in time. Knowing that I had already bagged this image ( Below ) as well as others I ran upstairs, quickly to find a vantage point.

I shot this with a slower shutter speed to create just enough motion blur around the couple. I took around 25 frames in total. Only 3 were usable. But one of them — this one — came out exactly how I’d imagined it. The couple are still and connected in the centre, while the rest of the room moves around them in a soft blur of colour and light. It’s not posed. It’s not lucky. It’s just that tiny space in time — planned, chased, and caught.

It’s the kind of image I always aim for. Real, intentional, and full of feeling.

1. The Bucking Bronco Bride

You don’t see this at every wedding. The bride had just climbed onto a mechanical bull — wedding dress and all — and within seconds she was airborne. The bridesmaids were watching in hysterics, the groom was laughing from the sidelines, and I was ready with the camera.

This shot captures the exact moment she came off — legs in the air, full commitment, zero regrets. It’s not your typical “bridal portrait”… and that’s exactly why I love it.

For me, this is what documentary wedding photography is all about. It’s real, unpredictable, and completely them. You can’t plan for moments like this — you just have to be ready when they happen.

Final Thought

The best wedding photos aren’t always the ones that win awards or look perfect on Pinterest. Sometimes, they’re just the ones that feel the most real. That’s what I aim for with every couple — moments that are 100% them.

If this is the kind of photography that speaks to you, have a look at my portfolio, or drop me a message — I’d love to hear about your plans.
